Puerto Rico... at a glance.

Flying into San Juan- The colors had me dying!!
We stayed in the Trump Residences in the Grand Melía Resort. This is the view of the private beach from our penthouse. It's about a 4 minute walk (tops) from the gates and is so unbelievably gorgeous at sunset.
Sunset- The picture does not do it justice.
The beach was scattered with little shells and the occasional piece of driftwood. It was also lined with coconut trees that i may or may not have attempted to climb...

SURFING PUERTO RICO
Surfing is definitely a huge passion of mine and I'm lucky enough to share that passion with my mother. We both already have a pretty sound foundation of the basics but how can you pass up an opportunity to take a lesson from former National Champion Brian Ramos. Plus the fresh produce and good laughs that come with.

The lessons are located at La Pared beach in Luquillo and come with photos and really good time. We were lucky enough to experience surfing in the rain while we were out.
The unique thing about Surfing Puerto Rico is that they work with you from where your skill level is. it's not the same generic lesson for everyone. Even if you know how to surf, 2 hours with Brian will make you better.
Taken with my iPhone** Looks like something straight out of a travel brochure.
After surfing, I highly recommend going down to Boardriders. Saturday and Sunday they offer brunch which is definitely AMAZING. But if you don't happen to be there on a brunch day or you're looking for non breakfast food; Their regular menu items are equally delicious. ( Try the tuna bites! )

SAN JUAN
Historic San Juan is a must. The streets are lined with brightly colored houses and the forts are super interesting- Especially if you're a history buff like me!
View from soldiers quarters

This street is almost directly across from the church and has a couple art galleries/ shops along the right side.
The view from the "port of entry"

A garden area hidden along a street, wet from the rain.

EL YUNQUE NATIONAL FOREST
The drive through is spectacular, and the hike to La Mina Falls is even more breathtaking.
The hike is fairly easy, however I do suggest bringing a couple water bottles, bug spray and a towel if you intend to swim. (Hi Mom!!)
The water is cold! Okay, so it's not freezing but its not as warm as the water washing up on the beach... also watch your step, the bottom is made of rocks, not sand!
Just down the road from La Mina Falls is  Yocahu Tower, with a view of the forest. El Yunque is a RAINFOREST so odds are you'll probably get a little rained on, It's well worth it though.

BIOLUMINESCENT BAY
Because this activity takes place at night I don't have many pictures of it, but it's a good time. We went through the company Kaiaking Puerto Rico (a sister company to Surfing Puerto Rico) and we had a blast. The tour guides were hilarious and really informative about the local wildlife and the history of the bay.
You paddle through a channel (about 1 mile) until you reach the bay, then you wait until the sun has set completely before you can see the organism in action. To see the organism you simply put your hand in the water for a few seconds and then move it around, this will cause the microorganism to glow. It's more like sparkles dancing around your hand but it's extremely cool.

Overall, Puerto Rico made for one very tan, very happy Lauren. Comment below your favorite part of Puerto Rico.
